London Student Art Project Welcomed

In collaboration with Kingston College, an exhibition of 56 Iranian artworks was held last month in London’s Capital Art Gallery.

A student project, it was designed to help Iranian art find its way into the global commercial art market, Honaronline reported.

Marina Panahi, Iranian curator and the brain behind the idea, said the exhibit was based on her final year thesis. Now a graduate of strategic management, her thesis was “Iran Art Joins the Global Commercial Art Market.”

“The program was based on strategic studies in London to promote Iranian art to collectors and enthusiasts,” she added.

Original artworks from 32 Iranian-British artists and those living in other parts of the world were on display. “They were sold at knock-down prices and went like cup cakes,” Panahi said.

The reception for the exhibit was great, particularly from European visitors and academic centers.

“Persian art has huge capacity for promotion at the global level and therefore the organizers wanted Iranian artworks to be part of their annual art fair as well.”
