Tehran Exhibit Center bridges a vast regional gap in the activities of FIAP.

The International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) will open its official center for exhibitions today (May 27) at the premises of Persian Idea Art Gallery in Tehran.

Seventy years after its establishment by Belgian physician and photography enthusiast Maurice Van de Wijer, FIAP, which is an international organization of national associations of photography, is opening its first center in Iran.

A solo photo exhibit by Luxembourg photographer Romain Nero, 50, who is a member of FIAP and director of its financial services ‘Patronage,’ will mark the inaugural ceremony, ILNA reported.

“What photography reproduces is ad infinitum,” says Nero quoting from French literary theorist, philosopher, linguist, critic and semiotician Roland Barthes (1915-1980) on his photography website (romainnero.eu).

“Photography is my passion; it is life through the lens. With such a variety of people and places in the world, there are no limits to the type of images to capture.”

Fascinated by such variety, Nero has traveled to different corners of the world and set up photo exhibits such as ‘Bali Cultures’ (2000) and ‘Toscana’ (2001) in Luxembourg, ‘Luxembourg, the City and the People’ (2007) in Sibiu, Romania, ‘Faces of China’ (2008) in Merchweiler, Germany, ‘Colorful Chinese Theater’ (2009) in Luxembourg, ‘Les Vestiges des Temples d’ Angkor’ (2010) in Offenbach, Germany, ‘Cambodia, Past and Present’ (2012) and ‘Inside Turkish Pottery Business’ (2013) in Luxembourg, as well as ‘Chinese Martial Arts’ (2014) in Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Nero’s exhibit in Tehran titled ‘The Pearl of Cuba’ opens at 5 pm. The exhibit will run through May 31, with visiting hours from 5-8 pm.

Nero will be present at the opening ceremony. Also attending is photographer Riccardo Busi, the president of FIAP board of directors since 2012, and its general secretary since 2002. He is five times FIAP World Champion in Nature. In 2011, he won the 60th Anniversary FIAP Cup titled ‘Children of the World’ in Singapore.

The gallery, the venue of FIAP Exhibit Center, is located at No. 28, Allahverdi Azar Alley, Dowlat Street, Qolhak neighborhood.
