The play ‘The Tempest’ written by the celebrated English playwright William Shakespeare (1564-1616) and directed by Iranian theater director Mazyar Seyedi, will be staged at Tehran’s Honar (art) Theater Hall from today.

Shakespeare’s comedy centers on a major act of betrayal, ill treatment and the development of magic arts and a plot of revenge, Tiwall.com reported.

It is set on a remote island, where the sorcerer Prospero, rightful Duke of Milan, plots to restore his daughter Miranda to her rightful place using illusion and skilful manipulation. He conjures up a storm, the eponymous tempest, to cause his usurping brother Antonio and the complicit King Alonso of Naples to believe they are shipwrecked and marooned on the island. There, his machinations bring about the revelation of Antonio’s lowly nature, the redemption of the king, and the marriage of Miranda to Alonso’s son, Ferdinand.

Director Seyedi also performs in the work along with Hamid Sadri, Mojtaba Alipur, Shadi Amiri, Borna Ansari, Negin Behzad, Anita Rajabi, Yekta Tabibi and Darya Falaki among others.

The play will run through June 2 at the venue located at Bldg 2 of Cinema and Theater Faculty, next to Shiroudi Stadium,  Varzandeh St., Mofateh St.
