‘American Buffalo’ on Tehran Stage

The play ‘American Buffalo’ written by American playwright David Mamet and directed by Siamak Zeinoddini will be staged from May 15 at City Theater in Tehran.

Written in 1975, the story is set inside a run–down junk shop, during one long day, where three men of great ambition and low morals plan a heist of a customer’s valuable coin collection.

The fast paced drama is all aggression, with characters wielding words like weapons to intimidate, cajole and manipulate each other. The results are hilarious, powerful and ultimately tragic in a play that is recognized as a masterpiece.

It had not been performed in Iran so far.

Zeinoddini also acts in the play beside Yeganeh Rajabi, Farzad Ayati, Ahmad Matoori, Akram Samani and Hassan Hemmati.

Mamet’s work has been staged in many countries, praised by critics and won several awards. It was adapted into a film in 1966.

‘American Buffalo’ will be on stage through May 26 at City Theater, located at Daneshjoo Park, junction of Vali-e-Asr St. and Enqelab Ave.
