Int’l Urban Film Festival Slated for Mid-Summer

Submissions have been invited for the 6th International Urban Film Festival in Tehran.

The festival is slated for July 23-August 6. The deadline for receiving the films is June 15, according to the festival website urbanfilmfest.org.

The annual festival is organized by the Art and Culture Organization (ACO) of Tehran Municipality. Its main focus is on “significance of city and urbanism on human life.” The event also seeks to promote empathy and moral values in cinematic works.

Categories in the upcoming event are: Iranian Cinema (competition), International Cinema (competition) and Neighborhood section.

National cinema category will show dramas, documentaries and animations on themes such as civil rights and duties, cultural changes, nostalgia and urban identity, green space, public participation to solve problems collectively, and urban studies on Tehran.

International Cinema category will include films that promote exchange of ideas between different cities in the world. It has special screenings and special workshops.

A neighborhood section will focus on the creative works that represent special characteristics of Iranian cities. Participants selected in this section will be admitted to professional filmmaking workshops.

A separate section ‘Sideline’ will provide a platform for exchange of ideas and experiences between Iranian and foreign artists. It is an opportunity for evaluation of works in special screenings, commemorations, reviews and expert meetings.
