‘Strait of Hormuz’ to Be Broadcast on May 5

The 2014 documentary animation ‘Strait of Hormuz’ by director Shahram Heydarian will be broadcast on the documentary channel of state TV on May 5 at 9:30 am.

Heydarian, 39, is experienced in animation production, directing, script writing, storyboard making, photography and film editing.

In a talk with Mehr News Agency, he explained the documentary centered on the Strait of Hormuz. The strait lies between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman and is one of the most strategic locations for international trade. About 35% of the petroleum traded by sea passes through the narrow strait.

“The documentary explores the social and geopolitical significance of the strait and reviews the potential of the region, including its ecotourism capacities,” Heydarian said.

He believes that the development of ecotourism can promote the livelihoods of the people living in the Persian Gulf islands and encourage them to protect the region’s natural resources.

The islands of Hormuz, Qeshm and Abu Musa were among the main locations for Heydarian’s documentary. Due to unstable weather conditions, the shooting sessions took about 45 days, but before that, one and half years was spent on research.

‘Strait of Hormuz’ has been produced under the auspices of the Tehran-based Documentary and Experimental Film Center.

“I did my best to tell the truth that the people in the southern regions have a minimal share of the country’s wealth. They should be given the means and facilities to create sustainable jobs, and not just be hired as contractual labor for investors from other parts of Iran,” he added.
