Iranian Theater Forum is preparing for the upcoming ‘Theater Week’ to be held in Tehran from April 27-May 4.

“We’re trying to make the event as grand and glorious as possible,” IRNA quoted CEO of the forum Asghar Hemmat as saying.

An accomplished theater actor, Hemmat, 65, is the recipient of First Degree Certificate from the Evaluation Council of the Culture Ministry. He spoke about a series of programs being organized to celebrate the Theater Week under the auspices of the Theater Actors’ Guild Association.

The association is one of the 14 guilds at Iranian Theater Forum. Others include those of directors, playwrights, critics, puppeteers, set and costume designers and street theater practitioners.

Among the programs, one day will be dedicated to the Actor’s Festival, held annually to award the best theater actors of the year. It will be the 14th round of the festival and is being held at Vahdat Hall on April 29.

“As in the previous years, juries will select the best thespians by examining a one-year review of their works. The best will be announced at the Actor’s Festival and there would be no staging of plays on the day,’ Hemmat said.

All theater groups will perform their plays and programs at Iranian Artists Forum (on Iranshahr St.), Tehran City Theater (at intersection of Enqelab and Valiasr avenues) and Tehran Theater Campus (in south Tehran).

In collaboration with the Tehran Municipality, special programs are also under consideration to be held at public parks in the city.
