The play ‘Reconsider Your Image of Me’, written by playwright Naghmeh Samini and theater director Arvand Dashtaray, will be performed in Germany and the Netherlands in August.
A joint production of Tehran’s Virgule Performance Arts Company (founded by Dashtaray) and Stichting The English Theater (STET), a non-profit arts organization in the Netherlands, the play is a long-term research-based performance project that focuses on the misunderstandings Iran and the West each have about ‘the other’; a false image created by the media, the geo-political situation and lack of knowledge.
“We have been invited to perform in Germany and the Netherlands in August,” Dashtaray told Mehr News Agency. “We also plan to stage it in Belgium in 2018.”
The play is “a reflection on cultural stereotypes and demonstrates the mechanism of the construction of national identities.”
So far two different performances have been developed under this title in Tehran and The Hague. The play has a different cast in Iran and the Netherlands and for the upcoming performances there will be new actors from other nations.
