Iranian composer, santur player and arranger Ardavan Kamkar, 49, a member of the Kamkars ensemble, will perform a concert next week and conduct a master class in Shiraz, the capital city of Fars Province.
Accompanied by three other players of santur (Iranian hammered dulcimer), Kamkar will hold the master class on April 20 at Shiraz Grand Hotel. On the following day, he will perform a concert featuring a solo santur rendition, Mehr News Agency reported.
The accompanying musicians are three of his pupils: santur instructor Mahyar Tarihi, 32; instructor, composer and arranger Mostafa Momenian, 34; and composer Siavash Kamkar, 28, who is the youngest member of the music ensemble of the Kamkars, a Kurdish family from the city of Sanandaj, the capital of Kurdistan Province.
The master class is organized under the auspices of Chavoosh Music School in Tehran, the musical instrument store Barbad Piano in Shiraz and the Music Society of Fars Province. The class will teach rhythm, melody, tuning, techniques in striking the mallets, articulation, dynamics and sonority to the participants.
