Abron band, led by Iranian singer, songwriter, saxophonist and clarinet player Masoud Azimifar, 31, is preparing for a concert in Tehran, titled ‘Songs of Motherland’ (in Persian: ‘Taranehaye Sarzamin-e-Madari’).

The concert is slated for April 17-18 at Niavaran Cultural House located at the northern end of Pasdaran Street, across Niavaran Park, according to music website musiceiranian.ir.

The two-day event features a number of pieces based on Iranian folk songs but with different arrangements. The songs are arranged in jazz style, as they have often been in the works of the band.

Azimifar founded the band in 2013. Explaining its name he said, “Abron is Persian for marigold (calendula officinalis), a short-lived aromatic herbaceous perennial, also known in Persian as ever-spring flower (‘gol-e-hamishe bahar’). The flower is somehow associated with many Iranian folk melodies and songs.

The group has staged concerts in Tehran and Isfahan, Tbilisi in Georgia, as well as Johannesburg, Cape Town and Bloemfontein in South Africa. The band will start its European tour in early summer.
