Call for Radical Performance Festival Entries

The first ‘Radical Performance International Festival’ is being organized by New Media Circle, affiliated to Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts (TMoCA).

“The precise date of the festival will be decided after the works to be featured are finalized,” said director of New Media Circle, Amir Rad, a media artist, painter and researcher in art.

But the event is expected to take place somewhere in late spring or early summer. As for the festival venue, “due to the wide variety of performances planned, they cannot all be hosted in one place. Most of them will be staged in places other than the TMoCA,” Honaronline quoted Rad as saying.

The event is based on interdisciplinary studies and will include diverse sections. Performance art is an art form that combines visual art with dramatic performance.

“In recent years, performance artists have increasingly diversified their arts; but their experiences seem haphazard. This leads to misconceptions and confusion,” in the field, Rad said.

“When it comes to practice, lack of regularity in particular types of performing arts kills the morale of the artists and plunges them into occasional lapses,” he added.

The festival is an opportunity for convergence of various approaches and focuses in performance. It helps expand interdisciplinary studies between alternative performance, performance art, video performance and online performance among other types of performing arts.

The festival will introduce some new sections to the art field in Iran. The event includes international sections to promote cultural and artistic exchange.

All enthusiasts are free to participate in the festival. Since March 17, entries are received online at radicalperformance.ir, where application form and additional information are available.

April 16 is the deadline for submission of works. Each section of the festival will select one winner for the ‘Golden Radical,’ the special prize of the event. Some selected works too will be commended,” Rad said. He is among the juries of festival.

The only foreign member of the jury is Italian art director, graphic and web designer, new media and communication expert Enrico Tomasell.

Other jury members include dramatist, theater director dramaturge Nasim Ahmadpour; theater director, playwright and theater researcher Azadeh Ganjeh; performance artist and video artist Elyas Aminian; theater actor and director Saeed Behnam; theater director, playwright and set designer Asghar Dashti; theater director and actor, video artist and filmmaker Mehdi Sadr; and theater director and playwright Reza Ghayour.
