2,600 Domestic Publishers Register for TIBF

A total of 2,607 publishers from across Iran have applied for the upcoming edition of the Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF).

The 30th TIBF is slated for May 3-13 and the registration deadline for domestic publishers has ended.

Houman Hassanpour, manager of the event’s Committee for Domestic Publishers, told Mehr News Agency on Monday that 373 publishers have registered in the children’s category, 1,545 in general and 552 in the academic categories. There are also 137 applicants in the educational category.

The applicants will be informed whether they are eligible or not for the event, via SMS, email and on the website.tibf.ir.

On average, 2,500 domestic and 600 foreign publishers participate in the annual Tehran International Book Fair. In the last edition, 19 countries attended and about $38 million worth of books were sold to over 5 million visitors.

Italy will be the guest of honor at this year’s edition. The country will have a pavilion with an area of 300 sq meters, showcasing Italian titles and translations. Space at the pavilion will be also be allocated for meetings between Italian and Iranian cultural officials as well as for commercial meetings between publishers from both sides.

A total of 15 personalities from among Italian writers, poets and illustrators will be invited to participate and to hold debates with their Iranian counterparts.

The 30th edition will be held at Tehran’s Sun City located on the Persian Gulf Highway in southern Tehran.
