The 20th Iran International University Theater Festival will be held from May 5-13 in Tehran.
Festival secretary Mehdi Gomar said the upcoming festival has seen a 30% rise in the number of participants, compared to its prior edition.
“Of the 603 pieces submitted to the Stage section of the event, 410 were accepted; while 21 works were selected from among the 80 works presented to the Experimental section,” Gomar said on the website theaterfestival.ir.
Selection panel includes theater director and playwright Azadeh Ganjeh, theater director and actor Saeed Behnam and media artist, painter and art researcher Amir Rad.
“The slogan of this edition is ‘Theater as an Intellectual Product of Academia.’ We want to be able to measure the impact of University Theater and to see what difference it makes in the field. This is the very topic around which the event’s seminars and meetings will revolve,” said Gomar.
Another focus is ‘Pursuing the Demands of Theater Students’.
“We have also considered a special award for best performing artists from the provinces other than Tehran and Alborz,” Gomar added.
