Jon Fosse’s ‘Autumn Dream’ directed by Farindokht Zahedi was staged at Shanghai International Contemporary Theater Festival (ACT).

On the play, a joint work with Norway, Zahedi said “the Shangahi Theater Festival featured a section on Jon Fosse, the Norwegian playwright and winner of Ibsen award.”Our play was supported by the Norwegian embassy in Tehran, and it was warmly received by the audience.”

Actors of the play included Maryam Boubani and Homayoun Ershadi among others. Set designer, composer, translator, and production manager of the play were all from Iran, MNA reported.

“The play is also expected to be staged at the 33rd edition of the International Fajr Theater Festival in Tehran,” Zahedi said.

Jon Fosse, born in 1959, is a Norwegian author and dramatist and “no ordinary playwright.” One of Norway’s most famous writers, he is also perhaps Europe’s most-performed living dramatist. His works have been translated into over 40 languages. In 2010, he won the biggest prize in global theater, the £275,000 Ibsen award, three years after being awarded France’s Ordre National du Mérite. It has been said that Fosse is hard to play and has engendered a host of suggested, more or less successful interpretations. Still, there is a growing group of directors and actors of all ages who see him as a liberating voice, and wish to stage his societal critical works.

Started in September 2005, the festival is an annual carnival hosted by Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center and aims to promote original pieces and new elaboration of classics with contemporary spirit.
