An Iranian feature film and a short animation have won top awards at two foreign festivals.

‘Lantouri’ directed by Reza Dormishian and ‘Unveiling Ceremony’ by Mehdi Boostani are the two productions from Iran which grabbed top prizes in festivals in Turkey and the US, Mehr News Agency reported.

Competing in the 16th Istanbul Independent Film Festival, in the ‘Inspired’ International Competition section along with eight other films, ‘Lantouri’ received the award for the most inspiring director of the year for Dormishian.

Born in Tehran, Dormishian, 35, started cinema activities by writing as a film critic for several newspapers. He also worked as a screen writer. Before making his own films, he had collaboration with prominent directors such as Dariush Mehrjui, Fereydoun Jeyrani, and Alireza Davoudnejad. He has made three feature films so far. ‘Lantouri’ chronicles a turbulent romance story at the heart of the society; a certain love which leads to madness.

The film has so far attended many international film festivals including 2016 Berlin, Fajr, Shanghai, Karlovy Vary, Vancouver and Stockholm and won some awards.

The festival which took place in Turkey, February 16-26, targets the most innovative and edgy creative works of the year by first or second-time filmmakers.
