The play ‘Rumors’ written by American playwright, screenwriter and author Neil Simon, 89, and directed by Iranian theater director Mehdi Asgharian is currently on stage at Fadak Culture House in Tehran.
The farcical play, translated by Behrouz Mahmoudi-Bakhtiari and Mina Rezapur into Persian, is one of Simon’s most celebrated comedies but it also carries a subtle undercurrent of sadness, tiwall.com reported.
A couple has invited some guests for their tenth wedding anniversary; however before the guests arrive, the host lies bleeding in bedroom and his wife is nowhere in sight. His lawyer must get “the story” straight before anyone shows up. As the confusion and miscommunications mount, the evening spins off into classic farcical hilarity.
Besides directing, Asgharian also plays in the work along with Amir Bashirenejad, Elena Hesari, Bahar Moeinfar, Sepehr Gandomi, Fariba Shafaqati, Hadi Qourchian, Mona Keyvan and Mehdi Haqparast.
The proceeds of the play will be used to support mentally-challenged girls at Naqsh-e-Mandegar Charity.
The play will be on stage through February 28 at the venue located at Fadak Park, Madani St., Resalat St.
