The Iran-Afghan joint film ‘Parting’ directed by Navid Mahmoudi is showing in a limited number of cinemas in some American cities.

Produced by Navid’s brother, Jamshid, the film was Afghanistan’s official 2017 Oscar entry and is the second film by the Mahmoudi brothers after the global success of their previous work ‘A Few Cubic Meters of Love’ in 2014, which Jamshid directed and Navid produced, ISNA reported.

The movie explores the ongoing tragedy of illegal immigrants from Afghanistan. It tells the story of two young Afghans, Fereshteh and Nabi, who are in love, but due to Afghanistan’s instability, Fereshteh has to follow her parents and leave Afghanistan to find refuge in Iran. Nabi decides to illegally cross the border, find Fereshteh and take her through Turkey to Europe and a better life.

The cast includes Reza Ahmadi, Fereshteh Hosseini, Behrang Alavi, Nazanin Bayati and Shams Langaroudi.

The film won Best Actress Award for Fereshteh Hosseini at Marrakesh Film Festival and the Best Director Award at Busan Film Festival last year.

Navid Mahmoudi was born in Afghanistan and relocated to Iran when he was a child. His earliest work in cinema was as assistant director and later television producer.

The movie is screened in the American cities of Dallas, Virginia, San Francisco, Georgia and Minnesota.
