After a hiatus of six years, the 7th National Sculpture Biennial will be held later this year from September 6-October 22 in Tehran.

The 6th edition of the biennial was held in 2011 on the theme ‘The Sky Is Mine’ and was aimed at creating a competitive environment for growth and promotion of young talent.

Financial constraints and the high cost of organizing the event were among the reasons for the long delay in holding the next edition.

“We will do our best to make the 7th edition exploratory, inquisitive and one that raises questions,” Negar Naderipour, head of the managing board of the Iranian Sculptors Society, told ISNA.

The society is organizing the event in cooperation with the Visual Arts Office at the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, as well as the Institute for Promotion of Contemporary Visual Art.

For the upcoming edition, the focus is more on studies and researches. “We seek innovation in the field.” As soon as the current managing board convened, members of the society urged them to organize the 7th National Sculpture Biennial, he said.

“The biennial hosts experimental and avant-garde art movements, presenting new forms and capacities of contemporary art” in sculpture, Naderipour added.
