Iranian researcher Majid Sarnayzadeh has been invited to the 23rd Performance Studies International Annual Conference in Hamburg, Germany.

The event is slated for June 8-11 and Sarnayzadeh, who is also the head of Bandar-Abbas Theater Group, will present one of his articles on performance and environmental issues, Honaronline reported.

Titled ‘A study on the performing aspects of protest activities of Minab Plain Guards’, the article is about an NGO called ‘Minab Plain Guards’ in Minab city, in the southern Hormuzgan Province, which is making efforts to draw attention to the problem of sinkholes and drought in the area through their activities, many of which have performing and theatrical aspects,” he said.

Sinkhole is a cavity in the ground, caused by water erosion, which provides a route for surface water to disappear underground.

Currently, a number of villages in Minab are facing a serious crisis of sinkholes. There are dangerous cracks in the ground and walls and people are living in fear as the ground below their feet can sink at any moment.

Performance Studies International (PSI) is a professional association founded in 1997 to promote communication and exchange among artists, thinkers, activists and academics working in the field of performance.

The conference title ‘OverFlow’ relates to the thematic emphasis of the 2017 German international performing arts triennial ‘Theater of the World’, which will take place in Hamburg in May and June 2017.

Sarnayzadeh has a master’s degree in philosophy of sciences from University of Isfahan. He has delivered speeches at international events in Australia, Japan, China and India.
