Iran Short Films, Animation Win in US Festival

Twelve films from Iran participated in the event, making them the highest representation in the festival’s Official Selection

Two Iranian short films and a short animation have won awards at the 3rd Atlas Award International Film Festival in Boston.

The movies ‘Hunting’ and ‘Silence’ both directed by Zahra Jafari and the animation ‘Junk Girl’ by Mohammad Zare and Shalale Kheiri were selected as the 2017 recipients of the Editorial Awards at the US event (January 15-31), Mehr News Agency reported.

‘Hunting’ won Best Art Film award. Elham Safakhah is the only actor in the dramatic short which deals with the identities of hunter (an artist) and hunted (her subjects).

‘Silence’ won Best Cinematography award for Saeed Hesari. The dramatic short is about a woman who desires attention from her silent husband.

The jury selected ‘Junk Girl’ as the winner of Best Production Design award. Inspired by a poem from Tim Burton’s book “The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories”, the animation depicts a doll girl made of junk, who is mistreated by everyone and forced to leave her city.

The US award was the 33rd international prize that ‘Junk Girl’ has won in the past two years from different film festivals across the globe.

The third edition of the festival hosted 50 works from 17 countries. Iran participated in the event with 12 film titles, putting it among the highest representation in the festival’s Official Selection.

Organized by Atlas & Aeris, an online editorial magazine dedicated to independent film, headquartered in Boston, the festival celebrates films from around the world by established and emerging filmmakers on a unique online platform for indie film lovers and filmmakers alike to discover and to be discovered.
