Finnish Graphics at Artist’s Forum

‘Simple, Strong and Sharp’ is the title of the works of Finnish graphic designer Karri Pippo which opened on Friday (November 28) at the Iranian Artists Forum.

The works of the well-known Finnish designer “are simple as he does not wish to convey more than one message at a time.” In some of his works lines intertwine; the artist, however, does not intend to confuse observers; rather it seems that he is saying “you can do this too,” Tasnim News Agency reported.

The drawings are at times so simple that at first look “it seems they are only sketches or that not much effort is needed in creating them.” The main theme of this collection is nature, and the artist has been inspired by the natural landscapes of his hometown in Helsinki.

Another part of the exhibition displays his posters, which include theatre posters, as well as others with anti-war themes and anti-drug abuse. The power of simplicity and sharpness manifest themselves in all his works.

Born in Finland in 1945, Pippo studied at the school of industrial art in Helsinki, and founded his studio in 1987. He specialized in illustration and poster design. He has taken part in international poster exhibitions since the early eighties and has been on the jury of many national and international competitions.

In addition, he has received several national and international prizes including first prize in Mexico International Poster Biennale, Icograda Excellence Award, Chaumont, Grand Prix Ekoplagat Triennial, Slovakia, and several Best Finnish Poster Prizes.

The exhibition will be open until December 4 at the forum, located on the southern side of Bagh-e-Honar, north Mousavi Street, Taleghani Avenue, Tehran.
