Veteran Iranian actor Kazem Afrandnia passed away on Saturday, January 28, in Tehran’s Firoozgar Hospital at the age of 71.

Afrandnia was admitted to hospital on January 20 for what doctors said was “suspected brain haemorrhage.” He went into a coma after three brain surgeries and died nine days later, ISNA reported.

Born in Nain, Isfahan Province, he appeared in over 100 films and TV series during his 50 years of acting career. 

His most notable films were ‘The Hopeful World’ (2012) directed by Manouchehr Hadi, ‘Left Handed’ (2006) by Arash Moayerian, ‘Killing the Rabid Dogs’ (2001) by Bahram Beizai, ‘A Man in the Mirror’ (1993) by Samuel Khachikian, ‘Operation Karkook’ (1992) by Jamal Shoorjeh, ‘Kanimanga’ (1987) by Seifollah Daad, ‘Mirza Noruz’ Shoes’ (1985) by Mohammad Motavasselani and ‘The Messenger’ (1977) by Fariborz Saleh.

He also acted in the TV series Setayesh 2 (2014), Setayesh (2010-2011) and Mirza Koochak Khan (1983).

He last appeared in a small role in the series Shah’s Mystery (2015-2017).
