Farhadi's 'The Salesman' Nominated for Best Foreign Film Oscar

The Salesman by renowned Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi is nominated for Best Foreign Language Film in the Academy Awards 2017. This is the third Oscar nomination for Iran and the second time for a film by Farhadi.

He was first nominated for A Separation in 2012 and took the Oscar for the first time to Iran. Majid Majidi's Children of Heaven was Iran's first nomination in the category in 1999.

Land Of Mine, A Man Called Ove, Tanna and Toni Erdmann are the other films nominated for Best Foreign Language Film in Academy Awards 2017.

The film took the Best Actor award for Shahab Hosseini and also landed Farhadi the best screenplay award at the 69th Cannes Film Festival last May. Grossing $4.2 million, The Salesman holds the record of Iran’s bestselling film of all time.
