30 Critics to Evaluate Plays at Fajr Theater Fest

Fajr International Theater Festival has convened a working group for critical appraisal of some of the participating plays.

The 35th edition of Fajr International Theater Festival, that opened on December 30 and will run through January 31, simultaneously in the provinces of Tehran, East Azarbaijan, Bushehr, Khorasan Razavi, Khuzestan, Fars, Mazandaran and Yazd, has selected 30 experienced critics to review the featured plays and give their assessments.

Theater director, critic, writer and translator Amin Azimi, 34, who heads the Appraisal Working Group, said the decision was made at a meeting with festival secretary Saeed Asadi “to promote professional evaluation of theater in the country,” the Iran Theater website reported.

Members of the working group were selected from among scholars with different views and schools of thought. They include members from Iran National Center for Critics, Writers Guild Association and Critics of Theater House as well as freelancers who regularly publish reviews on theater.

“We will evaluate some of the plays participating in the competition section. Our main focus is on international works and those created by young artists. The working group will also pay particular attention to environmental, interactive and outdoor plays,” said Azimi.

The appraisals in part will be published on the website of the festival (fitf.theater.ir) as well as that of Iran Theater (theater.ir). Another part will be released in multimedia formats and video clips on the festival website.
