Most of Tehran’s concert halls are host to performances by various traditional, pop and folk singers and music groups at the 32nd Fajr International Music Festival.

On the 2nd night of the event, January 14, several singers and bands performed at Milad Tower, Vahdat Hall, Azadi Tower and Milad Hall of Tehran’s International Fair Grounds. They were welcomed with enthusiasm by music fans, Mehr News Agency reported.

The repertoire of veteran pop singer of romantic melodies Fereydoun Asraei who performed at the fair grounds, included 14 pieces from his already published albums.

He sang the piece ‘I Love You’ both in Persian and Turkish. “I only have one wish, and that is the festival and its performances should be held in all cities across Iran.”

He was pointing to the norm of the annual event that is held only in Tehran, and people of other cities are deprived of having their favorite singers and bands in their cities during the event.

However, to make up for this deficit to some extent, this year for the first time, some of the performances are streamed live online for fans who cannot attend the event in the capital.

Asraei’s concert was followed by that of the young pop singer Farzad Farzin accompanied by Shock Music Band, who performed 15 popular pieces from his albums.

His repertoire of “happy songs” thrilled the audiences  and the slow piece ‘Honey Moon’, which was produced for a popular TV program by the same name three years ago, had many in the audience singing along.

  Ethnic Folk Songs

At another location, the folk music ensemble Dilmun performed ethnic music pieces from the northern Gilan Province, at Azadi Tower.

The band leader and singer Mahmoud Farzinejad sang some very popular pieces familiar to people of different parts of Iran.

Before singing any of the pieces, which were performed in Gilaki dialect of Gilan Province, Farzinejad explained the story behind each so that even those who did not understand the dialect could connect with it.

Elsewhere in Tehran, the Iranian folk music band Rastak performed folk songs of various ethnicities including from Hormozgan, Khuzestan, Kermanshah, Bushehr, Lorestan, Shiraz and Azarbaijan provinces, at Vahdat Hall.

The pieces were selected from their four albums including their latest one ‘Forever Among the Sun’ which was released in December 2016. The band sang in various languages and dialects such as Shirazi, Lori and Azeri.

Besides the local singers and bands, the international section of the festival also features musicians from Azerbaijan Republic, India, Lebanon, Spain, Portugal, France, Italy and Japan.

The festival will conclude on January 22 by awarding the winners in different categories of best performance, composition, singing and arrangement in both the national and international competition sections.
