Kish to Host Mowj Short Film Festival

The Second National Short Film Festival Mowj (Wave) is slated for late February in the Persian Gulf island of Kish.

The event is organized by the Kish Free Zone Organization and since the beginning of the call for submissions on December 5, the festival secretariat has received over 400 short films, IRNA reported.

Filmmakers can submit their works (no longer than 30 minutes) till February 3. The festival includes three sections: fiction, animated and documentary films, and all the works should either have an instructive theme, or made on the issue of the ‘Resistance Economy’ or describe the beauty of Kish Island.

The Resistance Economy is a set of recommendations by the Leader Seyyed Ali Khamenei to help underpin the domestic economy by boosting productivity and buying home-made goods instead of foreign products.

After the submission deadline, the films will be evaluated by a selection committee of three filmmakers, Nima Abbaspur, Majid Barzegar and Bijan Mirbaqeri.

A total of 60 short films will enter the competition section of the festival which will kick off on March 3. The jury comprising film directors Pouran Derakhshandeh, Mohsen Amiryousefi and another filmmaker whose name will be announced soon will judge the finalists and the winners will be awarded at the closing ceremony on March 5.

Last February, 65 films selected from 850 works submitted were shown in the first edition of Mowj Festival.

Kish Free Zone Organization has organized various events in the southern tourist resort in the recent years including the International Kids’ Festival, International Sculpture Symposium, Kish Book Fair and Ideal City Confab and Exhibition.
