On the occasion of the 70th birth anniversary of the renowned master of Persian classical music instruments tar and setar Mohammad Reza Lotfi (1947-2014), a commemoration ceremony will be held on January 6 at the Persian Gulf Hall of Niavaran Cultural Center in northern Tehran.

The ceremony tilted ‘Passion of Music’, will be attended by eminent figures in Iranian traditional music and a group of his students, ISNA reported.

The event will include different programs such as musical performances of Lotfi’s compositions by his students, video clips of his performances and speeches by veteran artists about his career and character.

Apart from his mastery in tar and setar (stringed instruments), Lotfi was a music composer, vocalist, researcher and teacher. He created numerous albums, among the best of which are ‘Love Knows’, ‘Sepideh’ (dawn) and ‘Bal-dar-Bal’ (Wing on Wing).

Co-founding Sheida Music Group, artistic collaboration with the renowned Persian author Mahmoud Dowlatabadi and celebrated film director Ali Hatami, and publishing Sheida Year Book are among his achievements.

He established the Mirza Abdollah Music School in 1993 where Persian classical music enthusiasts learn music, old melodic figures (radif) and classical instruments as well as Persian singing in its original oral tradition - without using musical notations.

The event is organized by Niavaran Art Creation Foundation and Mirza Abdollah Music School. It will start at 7 pm and is open to the public.
