Ad Academy of Visual Arts in Tehran is organizing the Second Ceramic-Based Exhibition later this year.
The exhibition is titled ‘Frontier,’ and ceramic artists have been asked to ponder over the concept of borders in the contemporary world, according to the website galleryinfo.ir.
Frontiers can be defined in geographical demarcations, social and individual boundaries, gender distinctions, social and cultural differences, beliefs and artistic values, said a statement from the exhibition organizers.
Participants should explore the current challenges in the contemporary world in relation to the significance of borders or the problems associated with them. They can offer various interpretations on the issue, which is among the main concerns today in the Middle East and the ongoing conflicts in the region resulting in the migrant crisis in Europe.
Participants are free to offer various aspects of the concept as they visualize it, in their artworks.
The works to be submitted can be objects or images or sound tracks “associated with the feel or memory of a ceramic item.” They can be in painting, sculpture, photograph, sound arrangement or performance art.
Participants are required to submit the maquette or preliminary plans of their works to the event secretariat by January 29. Each submission should be accompanied with a short piece describing the artist’s vision and explaining the concept.
The submitted plans will be evaluated by January 31. Artists who are selected will be asked to submit their original works by April 27 and the works to be featured at the exhibit will be announced on April 29. The date for the exhibition has yet to be announced.
