Two acclaimed movies by renowned Iranian filmmakers will be shown in Muscat this week.

Following the cinematic interactions between Iran and Oman, the Embassy of Iran in Oman will show two of the most notable works of Majid Majidi and the late Abbas Kiarostami, on Tuesday, December 27, ISNA reported.

Accordingly, Majidi’s ‘Color of Paradise’ and Kiarostami’s ‘Where is the Friend’s Home’ will be screened for film fans in the Omani capital.

Made in 1987, ‘Where is the Friend’s Home’ tells a simple story of a conscientious schoolboy’s quest to return his friend’s notebook in a neighboring village. Should his friend fail to hand it over the next day, he will likely get expelled. The film has been seen as a metaphor for the sense of civic duty, about loyalty and everyday heroics. The traditional beliefs of Iranian rural people are also shown in many parts of the movie.

It won several local and international awards including the Bronze Leopard at the 1989 Locarno Film Festival.

‘Color of Paradise’ is about  a young blind boy who returns to his rural home for the summer from a school in Tehran and yearns for his father’s acceptance.

Released in 1999, Majidi’s fourth feature film was praised by the public as well as critics both locally and abroad.
