‘Born in 1987’ in Canada

The Iranian movie ‘Born in 1987’ directed by Majid Tavakkoli has started its international debut from Canada, hitting screens last week in Montreal and Toronto.

The first feature film by Tavakkoli, it has English subtitles and is set for screening in other Canadian cities as well as European countries in the near future, Mehr News Agency reported.

The movie is a romantic drama focusing on the ambitions of a generation of young Iranians (born between 1981 and 1990). In the film, a young boy and girl assume the role of a wealthy couple in order to spend their days with Tehran’s nouveau riche.

The adventure begins with playful games that take the audience on a comic ride, but shifts to horror when the young couple find themselves locked up in an apartment, facing a case of mistaken identity.

Pedram Sharifi, Hengameh Hamidzadeh, Ehsan Amani, Maryam Sa’adat and Anna Nemati are in the cast.

The Canadian screening of the film has been organized by Aria Persys Film Production which has also shown many other Iranian productions in Canada.

The 80-minute movie will also be shown at the 14th Chennai International Film Festival (January 5-12, 2017), in India.
