At the recent auction held by the British Auction House Phillips in London, a painting by Iranian painter Azadeh Razaghdoost, sold for double the base estimated price.

The painting, oil and pencil on canvas, which was estimated between £8,000 (almost $10,000) and £12,000 (nearly $15,000) went under the hammer for £16,250 ($20,000), ISNA reported.

Titled ‘Dear Teo’, the painting was from her ‘Letters’ series done in 2010. The large artwork, 180.5 by 130.5 cm, was the only Iranian piece sold at the auction two weeks ago.

Razaqdoust, 36, is based in Karaj, Alborz Province. She has a bachelor’s degree in painting from Tehran’s University of Art. Some of her works are in the permanent collection of the Vall Palou Foundation, Lleida in Spain. She has also held exhibitions at the Kunstzeughaus Museum in Zurich and Isfahan Museum of Contemporary Art.

Her first solo exhibition in the UK is currently underway at Sophia Contemporary Gallery in London. Titled ‘Recipe for a Poem’, the exhibition comprises works from two of her painting series ‘Sick Rose’ and ‘Letters’. The exhibition will run through February 10, 2017.
