    Shokouh to Showcase Calligraphy Works

Calligrapher Ahmad Mazadi, 45, will showcase 26 of his works at Tehran’s Shokouh Art Gallery from Friday, December 23.

Mazadi’s exhibition titled ‘Today’s Exercise’ will run through January 3, 2017, Honaronline reported.

Mazadi is a master of Nastaliq script, a cursive style in calligraphy with long horizontal strokes and short verticals. For the upcoming exhibit, he has worked with ink on both paper and canvas.

He has adopted a classical approach in Nastaliq, but added a modern touch to it by juxtaposing various pieces of calligraphic exercises in the script. As a result, he has created new spatial concepts with parallel cuts, where words and letters are displaced across the panels. Thus, the scripts of Nastaliq that usually exude an aura of the 14th century, are now something of a contemporary setting, at the upcoming exhibit.

The exhibition is open every day except Thursdays. The visiting hours are from 4-8 pm, and on Fridays from 4-9 pm.

The gallery is located at No. 19, Amir Nouri Alley, Northern Salimi Street, Andarzgou Blvd, Farmanieh.
