The play ‘The Kitchen’ directed by Mohammad Hassan Majooni is on stage at Paliz Theater in Tehran.

Written by the British dramatist Arnold Wesker (1932-2016), it is a production of the local Leev Theater Group and has 35 actors in the cast, Tiwall.com reported.

‘The Kitchen’ (1950) depicts a restaurant kitchen as a metaphor for a society corrupted by greed. There cooks, pastry chefs, dishwashers and waitresses struggle to maintain a decent level of existence.

It is Wesker’s first work and one of the 20th century masterpieces. Many critics believe that Wesker was the Shakespeare of modern times as he wrote powerful works of drama, tragedy and even comedy. His plays have been translated into 20 languages and performed worldwide.

The big cast includes Shahla Hesami, Ali Khalatbari, Nahal Dashti, Sam Dowlati, Sara Saberi, Amir Qasemi, Atefeh Karimi, Ehsan Majooni, Milad Moayeri and Mahsa Nemati among others.

The play is on stage until December 23 at the theater located at No. 69, Sepand St., South Azodi St., Karimkhan St.

Veteran theater director Ali Rafiee is also rehearsing with 38 actors to stage the same play in April 2017 at Iranshahr Theater.
