The 10th National Biennale of Persian Painting opened Saturday, December 17, at Tehran’s Negarestan Museum Garden.

A total of 195 works are participating in the competition section, which includes the categories of miniature, flower and bird, page illumination, gilding, ink drawing and miniature portrait, Honaronline reported.

A number of programs are organized on the sidelines, including special meetings and lectures on Persian painting, as well as a seminar to present scientific articles on the contribution of the School of Old Crafts and National Arts Museum to contemporary Persian painting.

Majid Molanorouzi, director general of Visual Arts Department at the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, as well as some notable masters of Persian painting and miniature attended the opening ceremony. The event is organized under the auspices of the Visual Arts Department in collaboration with the Institute for Promotion of Contemporary Visual Art, University of Tehran and Iran’s Scientific Association of Persian Painting.

The biennale will run through January 16 at the museum garden located at Shariatmadar Street, Daneshsara Street, Baharestan Square.
