Iranian actress Marjaneh Golchin held an exclusive two-day music concert for women together with her sister Manijeh at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall on December 5-6.

The two sisters performed pieces from famous Iranian classical composers Morteza Ney Davoud, Ali Tajvidi and Homayoun Khorram at the event, Honaronline reported.

They sang Persian traditional songs as well as folk songs of northern Gilan Province where they were born.

The all-female orchestra accompanying the sisters included six musicians namely Minoo As’habi (violin and Kamancheh), Ava Ayoubi (bass), Melodi Pazoki (piano), Nazanin Pedarsani (tonbak, dayereh), Targol Khaliqi (tar) and Seda Sediqi (qanun).

Marjaneh, 47, studied music in school and later cinema at Soore University in Tehran. She started her career in theater acting and then in TV and cinema.

She has acted in a number of films and TV series including ‘Warm Breath’ (2015), ‘Shahgoosh’ (2013), ‘The Rich and the Poor’ (2010), ‘Colonizers’ (2010) and ‘The Mirror’ (1985) series as well as the movies ‘Laugh in the Rain’ (2010) and ‘The 29th Night’ (1989).

Marjaneh is the niece of the famous classical singer Nader Golchin, who turned 80 years last week and is suffering from respiratory illness. One of the popular singers before the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Nader has sung many memorable old songs. In the past 40 years, he has only recorded one music album.

Marjaneh is the third Iranian actress who has turned singer. Earlier this year in January, Hengameh Qaziani, 45, staged her first vocal performance at Vahdat Hall and in July, Shohreh Soltani, 47, held her first concert at the same venue.

After the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iranian women have sung either in choirs or as co-singers with male vocalists. In recent years, however, special concerts exclusively for women have also been held and are popular.
