32nd Fajr Int’l Music Festival Opens Jan. 11

The Fajr International Music Festival, Iran’s most prestigious music event, is to be held from January 11-20, 2017.

Tehran will host the 32nd edition of the Fajr music event one month early this time than in the previous years, Azad News Agency (ANA) reported.

The change in the festival schedules is due to the mourning ceremonies of Hazrat Fatima Zahra (AS), the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), which are to be observed from February 11- March 2.

The festival includes national and international competition sections. This year, ‘Cultural Iran’ will be the topic of the festival’s international competition. The section will feature musicians from Central Asian countries, Azerbaijan Republic, India, Lebanon, Spain, Portugal, France, Italy and Japan.

Iranian musician and traditional vocalist Hamid Reza Nourbakhsh is the director of the 32nd Fajr International Music Festival. He is also the current director of Iran’s House of Music. He appointed composer and conductor Mehdi Vojdani as head of the festival’s public relations.

The festival admits musical compositions that have been released between October 2015 and October 2016.

It is a platform to introduce and create awareness about less-known musicians, Nourbakhsh said.

“Prizes will be awarded to sections such as performance, composition, singing and arrangement; but there will be more prizes this year. In the course of time, the festival will be expanded to include a section for first-timers,” he added.
