The fantasy/adventure book ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’ written by the American author Ransom Riggs has recently been translated into Persian and will soon be published by Parian Publications.
The first part of a trilogy for young adults, the story has been translated by Shabnam Sa’adat who has also completed the translations of the next parts, to be released immediately after the first volume is out in the market, ISNA reported.
It is the story of a boy named Jacob who, after a horrific family tragedy, follows clues from his grandfather’s old photographs which lead him on an adventure that takes him to a large abandoned orphanage on a Welsh island.
The book spent 70 weeks on The New York Times Best Sellers list for children’s books. It reached the No. 1 spot on April 29, 2012, after being on the list for 45 weeks and remained there until May 20 when it dropped to the fourth spot on the list.
Critics have generally praised the book for creative use of vintage photographs as well as good characterization and settings.
A sequel, titled ‘Hollow City’, was released in 2014. The novel set immediately after the first, sees Jacob and his friends fleeing from Miss Peregrine’s to the “peculiar capital of the world”, London. The third installment in the series, titled ‘Library of Souls’, was released in 2015.
A film adaptation of the book has been released in the world since October and has earned $257 million globally so far. Directed by the famous American filmmaker Tim Burton, the movie features French actress Eva Green as Miss Peregrine and young English actor Asa Butterfield as Jacob.
Sa’adat holds a PhD in translation and intercultural studies from the University of Manchester and currently teaches at Allameh Tabatabai University in Tehran.
She has translated and published several books so far including the well-known trilogy of ‘Hunger Games’ written by the American novelist Suzanne Collins and ‘The Lost Symbol’ by the famous American author of thriller fiction Dan Brown.
