Internationally acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi was in Mumbai, India, in March and August to prepare for his next film initially titled ‘Floating Gardens’.

The Iranian writer, producer and director known in the world for films like ‘The Color of Paradise’, ‘Baran’, ‘The Song of Sparrows’, ‘Muhammad: The Messenger of God’ and the Oscar nominated ‘Children of Heaven’ met his casting director, Honey Trehan, on his upcoming film, an Indian story that will be shot in Mumbai, Delhi, parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan and Kashmir, the Mumbai Mirror reported.

“It will take off towards the yearend or early 2017 and is a signature Majidi film in its take on relationships and emotional quotient,” said Trehan who has a task on his hands given that at least 810 of the principal characters in this human drama will be played by Indian actors.

“He is not starstruck, for him the characters are real and he has experimented with untrained talent in the past if he believes someone fits the part. We read the script together and I gave him my take,” Trehan added.

“I am always glad to visit India because its terrain and culture offers so much diversity and intrigue. This film has led me to explore locations through India which has ensured my discovery of India is a unique experience in itself,” Majidi told the Mirror.

Popular for narrating stories on human bonding and relationships, Majidi plans to delve into a relationship-based story set against the Indian backdrop.

Produced by the Indian production house Eye Candy Films, the film will be made in English and Hindi.

Majidi had told The Hollywood Reporter in a 2013 interview, “I have always wanted to shoot in India as I have always felt that both Iran and India have the same cultural sensibilities”.
