Tanavoli's Sculpture in Toronto

Three sculptures by acclaimed Iranian-Canadian artist Parviz Tanavoli are on display at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto.
Three of the Vancouver-based artist's sculptures namely Poet in Love, 2009; Big Heech, 2014; and Horiztonal Lovers, 2016, his latest sculpture which is being publicly exhibited for the first time, have been installed.
Tanavoli is best known for his bronze sculptures inspired by calligraphy. He is a pioneer of the 1960s’ Saqqakhaneh movement, the neo-traditionalist movement which incorporates Iranian folk art and is seen as the first school of Iranian modern art, theculturetrip.com reported.
In his six-decade career, Tanavoli’s work has been exhibited across the globe – including the Davis Museum in Wellesley, MA; the Tate Modern in London; Grey Art Gallery in New York City, NY; the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art in Tehran; and now, Toronto’s Aga Khan Museum.
The sculptures will be on display through April 2, 2017.
