An Iranian couple specialized in wood art are to present Tabriz, the capital of East Azarbaijan Province, at the Tri-Continental Arts and Crafts Fairs Santa Cruz in Tenerife, Canary Islands.

Wooden mosaic (Moarraq) artists Yaser Yami, 34, and his wife Lida Siami, who also does wood carving, will participate in the handicrafts fair in Tenerife, the largest island on the Spanish archipelago off the coast of northwestern Africa, scheduled from October 29 to November 6. "I was invited to the fair after my participation at Spain's Fitur," the 36th edition of international tourism trade fair in January in Madrid, Yami told ISNA.

In his correspondence with the officials of the event, Yami introduced his birth place Tabriz and noted that the city has been selected as a world crafts city by the World Crafts Council for its production of hand-woven rugs.

"This impressed the fair officials. It was agreed that I should present Tabriz with a series of pictorial banners. For this purpose, they asked me to send them a number of photographs of the handicrafts made in Tabriz," Yami said.

"We also proposed a workshop and they agreed," he added.

The exhibition center of Santa Cruz is to bring together artisans from 25 countries. They will come from Europe, Africa and America whose ocean liners usually choose Tenerife as a midway stop on their cruises.

The Tri-Continental Arts and Crafts Fairs has attracted over 100,000 visitors in its previous editions.
