The South Khorasan Congress on History of Architecture and Urbanism, one of the provincial seminars of the 4th Congress on History of Architecture and Urbanism in Iran, will be held January 24-26, 2017.

Under the auspices of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO), the seminars will be organized in three cities of South Khorasan Province: Birjand, Ferdows and Khusf.

Unlike the three previous editions of the national congress which were held in the city of Bam, Kerman Province, in 1996, 1999 and 2006, the next edition is being organized in South Khorasan, Honaronline reported.

The provincial confab will include topics such as 'Cultural and Natural Aspects of Historical Cities and Villages', 'Cultural and Urban Landscapes of Ancient Sites', 'Structure in History of Architecture and Urbanism', 'Archaeology, Architecture and Urbanism', 'Architectural Heritage and Modern Urbanism', and 'Intangible Cultural Heritage'.

Researchers are requested to submit their articles to the website of the provincial congress at skhorasan.chaui.ir before November 20.

  Previous Editions

Previous editions of the congress were coordinated by the late architect, restoration expert and researcher in urbanism and cultural heritage Bagher Ayatollahzadeh Shirazi (1936-2007). He was the head of Technical Office for Conservation of Isfahan Province Historic Monuments, director of the National Organization for the conservation of Historic Monuments, coordinator deputy at ICHHTO and manager and editor-in-chief of Assar Scientific and Research Journal.

Shirazi received the Agha Khan Foundation Architecture Award for the restoration of the historic monuments in Isfahan in 1980. He was honored by the Iran Academy of Art in 2001 and by ICHHTO in 2003 for his contributions in the field.
