A total of 100 short films from 41 countries will compete in the 33rd Tehran International Short Film Festival (TISFF), slated for November 8-14, at Charsou Cineplex in downtown Tehran.

Director of the international section of the annual event, Hassan Dezvareh, said the festival secretariat received 3,668 short films from 117 countries, and 100 works were chosen by the selection committee including 71 films in the international competition section, 12 in Asian competition and 17 in the video-art noncompetitive section.

He said narrative films form the majority of works and are followed by documentaries, experimental and animated works, Mehr News Agency reported.

France and Germany have the highest number of participants in the festival with 10 and 9 films respectively. There are also works from Belgium, Spain, Brazil, Canada, the US, the UK, Japan, Italy, Poland, Russia, Turkey, India and Lebanon competing in different sections.

The festival is organized by The Iranian Youth Cinema Society (IYCS, a member of International Short Film Conference), an educational film organization established almost 40 years ago.

The IYCS is affiliated to the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and has 60 branches across the country; the main branch is in Tehran. Its activities include educating the youth in the field of cinema in compact film courses, producing short films and distributing them in the world.
