A book co-authored by Seyyed Reza Salehi Amiri, head of the National Library of Iran, and researcher and writer Amir Azimi Dolatabadi, titled 'Principles of Cultural Planning and Policy Making,' has been published by the Tehran-based Qoqnoos publications.

The authors believe that studies in cultural management in Iran "have been too restricted", Mehr News Agency reported.

Research in cultural management has not produced the desired results; nor are there sufficient and effective plans or programs, books or articles in this field, the writers say.

The book explains the concepts of culture and cultural management and provides a perspective on cultural planning in Iran, both in the past and present. The writers have also highlighted a series of key factors influential in cultural development.

"Cultural management is essential in every country, not solely as a scientific study, but also for promoting artistic endeavors," the authors said.

The 280-page book in five chapters includes two chapters on Cultural Organization in Iran (a pathological review) and Supervision and Evaluation of Cultural Activities. It also proposes "a solution for the current cultural situation in the country."

Last year Salehi Amiri's co-authored 'The Pattern for Promotion of Cultural Assets in Iran', with Rozita Sepehrnia from the Faculty of Social Sciences, Azad University of Roodehen in Tehran Province.
