The play 'The Door' by Iran Saye Theater will take part in the New York International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC), August 12-28.

Written and directed by Mehdi Mashhour, it will participate in the Drama section of the event which is the largest multi-arts festival in North America, Honaronline reported.

Each year the festival presents programs by nearly 200 of the world’s best emerging theater troupes and this year at its 20th edition, it will host the Iranian play.

'The Door' was earlier hailed at the 9th Donzdorf International Theater Festival, Germany, last year.

Performed in English, it focuses on the topic of immigration through the eyes of two Middle Eastern women. The female characters both experience light and darkness, representing the essence of life and consciousness and death and ignorance respectively.

The production will be the first Iranian play to take part in FringeNYC, providing a rare opportunity for thousands of fringe festival audience members to glimpse into Iran's performance arts.

A total of 70 troupes from the US as well as 10 from other nations will perform at the American event.

'The Door', which was performed in Tehran last year, will also travel to Sweden in October to attend another festival in Stockholm.
