All-Woman Ensemble to Perform at Vahdat

The Music Band 'Khonyagaran-e-Mehr' (literally 'Love Minstrels') will stage their first concert at Tehran's Vahdat Hall on July 26, while the famous Iranian traditional singer Mohammad Motamedi will accompany them as the vocalist.

The 12-member band led by Niusha Barimani has recently been established and works in the field of Iranian traditional music. The special feature of the ensemble which distinguishes it from other bands is that it is comprised of only women musicians.

The band plans to invite a different singer for each one of their performances and Motamedi is the first. He will sing pieces of classic and modern poetry the music for which is produced by Behzad Abdi, Honaronline reported.

On collaborating with a new ensemble, Motamedi said, "This is the debut concert of Love Minstrels Music Band and I am a guest singer. But as long as they ask me, I would be pleased to work with them as they are talented ladies whose art needs to be seen". He added the event will prove the status of Iranian women in music.

Motamedi, 38, is a traditional vocalist and a ney player, who has released several albums and held concerts in the country and abroad in France, China, the Netherlands, Italy, Pakistan, Belgium, the US and Turkey.

Barimani, 32, has studied music in university and is a professional kamancheh (knee fiddle) player.

She has cooperated with various ensembles, played in several musical albums and performed in different countries including Canada, Austria, Germany, France, the UK Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, Qatar, Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The band includes Nazanin Rusta and Shima Shahmohammadi (gheychak alto player), Rokhsareh Rostami (oud), Seda Seifi (qanun), Sheyda Qazi (ney), Negin Zadevakili (gheychak), Hila Feyzpur (tar and piano), Bahar Heydari (tar), Mehrnaz Dabirzadeh (tonbak), Asal Malekzadeh (daf and drums) and Targol Khalighi (tar and robab).
