A gold stamp depicting the great Persian poet Ferdowsi will be unveiled in August, and added to the Iran commemorative stamps collection.

The stamp has been brought out by Iran Post (the state postal company) which has recently started designing and making gold stamps depicting famous figures of Iran in different fields, IRNA reported.

Iran Post has so far presented two stamps, one depicting Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the other showing the veteran artist Mahmoud Farshchian, master of Persian painting and miniature.

The Ferdowsi gold stamp will be unveiled at a ceremony in the presence of the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi in August and then it will be available in the market for those interested in philately.

“As a precious work of art which is valuable too, gold stamps can also be bought as souvenirs,” Hossein Mehri, managing director of the post company said.

Ferdowsi (940-1020) is a celebrated figure in the history of Persian literature. He is the author of the epic of Shahnameh (Book of Kings) which is the longest poem created by a single poet.

Mehri said designing and bringing out silver stamps is also among Iran Post’s programs, but will be done on the request of customers.
