A 45-volume collection of illustrated books in the format of comic strips will be published to inform children and young adults about the stories of valor and sacrifice of Iranian combatants and commanders in the 1980-88 Iraq-imposed war, Mohammad Hossein Karmipour, director of Harir publications said.

So far, two volumes of the collection have been released.

Major General Mohammad Boroujerdi (1955-1983) and Chief of Staff of Armed Forces Ali Sayad Shirzai (1944-1999) are the main characters of the two volumes published, Karimpour told ISNA.

The story of Shirazi goes back to 1988 when he led Operation Mersad to counter Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein’s forces that attacked western Iran in a battle to seize Kermanshah. The other graphic novel depicts Boroujerdi who played a key role in reclaiming territory in Kurdistan Province from the occupying Ba’ath army.

Designer, concept artist, character artist and storyboard artist Hossein Ojaghi has done the graphic work for the two books. “Other artists and graphic specialists will likely be commissioned for the next volumes.”
