Saket Concert for Breadwinning Women

A charity concert by Vaziri Music Band was held on Monday at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall and all the proceeds were dedicated to women heads of households supported by a local charity organization.

Iranian tar and setar virtuoso Keyvan Saket, the leader of the group, performed on the stage together with his ensemble and was accompanied by the young traditional vocalist Vahid Taj in some pieces, Honaronline reported.

The event was organized on the request of the Tehran-based Firuznia Charity, an NGO which supports needy women who are breadwinners.

The charity seeks to attract poor women heads of households and help them meet their material and spiritual needs so as to boost their morale and maintain their families.

Saket is an acclaimed Iranian composer and music researcher. He has held many concerts in Iran, Canada and Australia. He established Vaziri Band in 1996 and has since performed numerous pieces with them. The band has always been a pioneer in philanthropic initiatives.

The ceremony also honored Ahmad Hellat, well-known Iranian psychologist as well as founder and editor-in-chief of Movafaghiat (Success) magazine. Part of the program was dedicated to the sale of artworks to raise funds for the construction of a clinic.

The number of female-headed households in Iran has more than doubled over the past quarter century from 1.2 million in 1991 to 2.5 million in 2015.
