The Hindu University of America (HUA) located in South Florida, has published a book written by Bushehri author and academic, Morassa Sayadi.
Titled ‘Morphology of Sanskrit’, the book covers Sanskrit verbs, including regular and irregular, nouns, words’ etymologies and more, Honaronline reported quoting the public relations department of the Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry’s office in Bushehr Province in southwest Iran.
Sanskrit (literally meaning refined speech) is the primary sacred language of Hinduism and a philosophical language in Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism. It was a literary language that was in use in Greater India.
The body of Sanskrit literature encompasses a rich tradition of poetry and drama as well as scientific, technical, philosophical and religious texts. The language continues to be widely used as a ceremonial language in Hindu religious rituals and Buddhist practice in the form of hymns and chants.
“The language is so much similar to Avestan (old Persian) language, because both are Indo-European languages and originated in the region in the vicinity of the Caspian Sea. Yet Sanskrit is much more rich and comprehensive in terms of vocabulary and grammar,” said Sayadi.
The word structure analysis provided in the book is based on the frameworks presented in ‘Sanskrit Grammar’, by the 4th century AD Indian author Panini, she added.
Panini’s book covers formulation of the 3,959 rules of Sanskrit morphology, syntax and semantics in the grammar, which are known as Astadhyayi (in English ‘eight chapters’), the foundational text of the grammatical branch of the Vedanga, the auxiliary scholarly disciplines of the historical Vedic religion.
The book will be available in online market ‘Amazon’ in a week.
Morassa Sayadi, 31, has done bachelors and master’s degrees in English Language Studies and Ancient Language Studies respectively from Bushehr University. She received her Ph.D. degree from Kerala University in India.
As a university lecturer, she taught English, Persian, Iranian ancient culture and languages, and Sanskrit from 2008 to 2014 at Payam-e Noor and Azad university of Tehran.
Sayadi is also an expert in applied linguistics, cognitive science, phonetics, sociolinguistics, morphology, historical linguistics, ancient culture and languages, dialectology, corpus linguistics, discourse analysis, semantics and computational linguistics.
