A volume and installation art project, jointly created by Atena Akhavan and her husband Shahin Qasemi, opened at Tehran’s Shirin Art Gallery on Friday.

The items featured are created with thick recycled carton boxes and bronze, Honaronline reported.

“We tried to break the conventional use of materials for sculptures, using a combination of carton and metal to create stronger works,” said Akhavan.

“Our artwork is unique as it differs from the usual creations of artists as well as the preferences of customers for metal sculptures.”

Paper is an interesting material, which has not been used much in sculptures so far, she noted. “Our innovation, with the instructions from master of sculpture, Parviz Tanavoli, has led to the creation of artworks, with low cost material.”

In a note on the exhibition, the artists wrote: “Paper cuts, forms and textures are created from pressed and unfolded bulks of carton boxes. Our knowledge of art was combined with the love of nature, representing what can be seen in the collection.”

The exhibition will run through June 22 at the gallery, located at No.5, Sanaei St., Motahari Avenue.
